At the age of 15 Chris signed with Jive Records who help develop into one the most successful artists in the world and in 2005 released his self-titled debut album which quickly found its way into the charts. Working with established producers and songwriters, he had a No. 1 hit with "Run It!,", the track featured a guest appearance by rapper Juelz Santana. While many of the songs have a hip-hop influence, Brown's voice has a classic R&B sound, people were quick to compare him to superstar Michael Jackson because of his dual talents as a singer and dancer.

In 2006, Brown went out on the road for his Up Close & Personal tour. He played more than 30 concerts in cities across the country. Shortly after he began production for his second studio album 'Exclusive' which was released in the United States on November 6, 2007. The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 294,000 copies in its first week, and received generally positive reviews from music critics. As of March 23, 2011, it has sold over 1.9 million copies in the United States.

Brown began work in 2008 on his-then upcoming third studio album. According to him, he would experiment a different musical direction for his new album “Graffiti” while hoping to emulate singers Prince and Michael Jackson. The song peaked at number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and number 11 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Crawl" was released as the album's second single on November 23, 2009. As of March 23, 2011, it has sold 341,000 copies in the United States.

On February 24, 2015, Brown released his first collaborative studio album with Tyga, titled Fan of a Fan: The Album. In May 2016 Brown announced that his next album title would be, Heartbreak on a Full Moon. The first single, "Grass Ain't Greener" was released on May 5, 2016.
